The Growth of On Demand Tutoring

As technology continues to advance, its use in the academic setting has done so too. E-learning has become increasingly popular because of the accessibility, effectiveness, and flexibility it provides. This new stance on virtual academic resources, as well as the need for dynamic learning acceleration strategies, has driven the growth of on-demand tutoring at an exponential rate.

The pandemic shaped the way we view education accessibility. As social distancing became the new norm, virtual learning became essential. Now, in-person instruction is not enough. Experience with unprecedented situations, such as COVID-19 and natural disasters, has left educational leaders with no doubt that technology has to be involved in providing adequate access to education. Nowadays, schools must be prepared to adapt to virtual learning. In addition to this, personal preference has also increased the demand for online education. According to an article published by McKinsey and Company, "From 2011 to 2021, the number of learners reached by massive open online courses (MOOCs) increased from 300,000 to 220 million." (Diaz-Infante et al., 2020). Undoubtedly, virtual education resources have never been more popular.

Along with the increasing demand for e-learning, the pandemic and consequential learning loss also heighten the need for accelerated learning. In a speech by the U.S. Education secretary Miguel Cardona, he called on schools to “use some of their billions in COVID relief funds to invest in academic recovery, calling specific attention to intensive tutoring" (Belsha, 2022). Teachers need extra support in the classroom, and students need personalized instruction to fill current knowledge gaps and compensate for lost time. High-dosage tutoring, defined as providing at least three weekly sessions in a one-on-one or small group setting, is the best strategy to address learning loss (Robinson et al., 2021).

Unsurprisingly, a significant demand for virtual high-dosage tutoring seems to be driving the market. In fact, The Business Research Company published a report that states that "the global online tutoring market is expected to grow from $6.98 billion in 2021 to $8.17 billion in 2022 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 16.9%. (The Business Research Company, 2022). Therefore, online tutoring companies are predicted to increase their reach and the quality of their tutoring. At Entheon, we are aware of what this opportunity represents. We want our students to have access to the best and most accessible platform in the market. That is why we have developed an easy-to-use virtual platform where students can access highly trained tutors and get personalized intervention throughout the school day.
